Palworld Hardwood (Bois Robuste) Guide: Where to Find and What It’s Used For
Hardwood, known in French as Bois Robuste, has become one of the most important materials in Palworld for players pushing into late-game progression. Added with the big 1.0 update, it’s tied to higher-tier crafting, base upgrades, and equipment that standard wood simply can’t cover.
Quick facts
- What it is: Hardwood / Bois Robuste, a high-quality building material.
- When it arrived: Introduced with the 1.0 update.
- Where to farm: Best start at Sakurajima Island; also found in desert and volcanic regions.
- Fastest method: Unlock and build Logging Site II (Scierie II) at tech level 43 to automate cutting.
- Typical shop price: 100 gold per unit from certain wandering vendors (including the Fisher Village and Desert City).
Bois Robuste / Hardwood is mainly about unlocking late-game power. It’s used to craft top-tier Pal Spheres, including the Ultimate Sphere, Exotic Sphere, and Legendary Sphere. It also feeds into higher-end weapon and base building options, such as the double-barrel shotgun and structures with a Japanese-inspired architectural style.
What you need it for
Hardwood stands out from common wood because it’s geographically limited and focused on advanced crafting. If you’re building toward stronger capture tools and more capable combat gear, this is one of the resources you’ll repeatedly come back to.
Beyond spheres and firearms, it’s also tied to expanding and styling your base with higher-end architectural pieces—making it a core material for players who want both performance and aesthetics.
Where to find Hardwood
For direct farming, Sakurajima Island is the quickest starting point. The most efficient approach is to travel with the right tools—at minimum, a refined metal axe—and then target the specific trees marked by pink foliage, with trunks that are described as red or gray.
If you’re looking for alternative routes, Hardwood can also be harvested in desert and volcanic regions by cutting the large trees there, including those noted for having rough bark.
Automation beats manual farming
Manually harvesting Hardwood can work, but the real optimization comes from setting up your base to produce it passively. To do that, you need to unlock Logging Site II (Scierie II) by reaching tech level 43.
Once you have the plan, you’ll build the structure in your camp and assign specialized Pals. Logging Site II has a stated initial cost of 100 units of Hardwood, 50 stones, 20 Paldium fragments, and 5 fragments of an ancient civilization.
Recommended base setup
- Unlock: Logging Site II plan at tech level 43.
- Cutters: Assign Pals with strong “felling” levels, such as Bushi, Warsect, or Wumpo.
- Transport: Add dedicated transport workers to move heavy logs straight into your guild storage.
Buying or hunting for Hardwood
If you don’t want to wait for infrastructure, you can also obtain Hardwood from wandering merchants. The price is listed as 100 gold per unit, with availability referenced at places like Fisher Village and Desert City.
Hardwood can also be sourced by hunting specific Pals, including Mossanda and Wumpo Botan, depending on what you’re already farming for in your run.
