The Pokémon Company has detailed a major update for Pokémon Home, moving the service to version 4.1.0. The change adds support for the newly re-released Pokémon Red and Pokémon LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch (and Switch 2), alongside a Premium expansion tied to storage capacity and additional transfer features.

Key takeaways

  • Pokémon Home will update to version 4.1.0 in October.
  • Support is added for the Nintendo Switch re-releases of Pokémon Red and Pokémon LeafGreen.
  • Premium subscribers’ storage limit increases from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon.
  • The Premium price is said not to change with this capacity increase.
  • After the October update, Pokémon caught in Pokémon GO with a Safari Ball can be transferred to Pokémon Home for the first time.

Version 4.1.0 adds Red and LeafGreen support, plus a Celebi bonus

With Pokémon Home version 4.1.0, the platform expands its compatibility to include Pokémon Red and Pokémon LeafGreen as they are currently available as digital re-releases on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The update also introduces an incentive for completionists: a bonus Celebi is granted if you complete the Pokédex for those two games within the supported context.

The update is also positioned as part of Pokémon Home’s broader role as Pokémon Bank approaches its end. Pokémon Bank is scheduled to close on February 26, 2027, and Pokémon Home is being reinforced as the likely central hub for the wider series, with additional changes expected beyond this release.

Premium storage expands to 9,000 Pokémon (and GO transfers get a new ball conversion)

One of the biggest practical changes in version 4.1.0 targets subscribers to the Premium plan. The maximum number of Pokémon that can be stored in Pokémon Home increases from the current 6,000 to 9,000 for Premium users.

The company stated that this adjustment should not affect the price of the Premium plan. In addition, Pokémon Home gains a new cross-game transfer capability for players who use Pokémon GO: after the October update, trainers will be able to transfer Pokémon caught with a Safari Ball from Pokémon GO into Pokémon Home for the first time.

When those Pokémon are moved to Pokémon Home, their ball will change—specifically, the company says their ball will transform into a “Strange Ball.”
