Beyond These Stars brings a fresh twist to the city-builder formula: you won’t just manage a settlement on a planet—you’ll grow it on the back of a living space whale. The PC release is set for October 15, 2026, and the core challenge is as much emotional as it is logistical.

Quick facts

At a glance

  • Beyond These Stars launches on PC on October 15, 2026.
  • Players build and expand a city on the back of a space whale called Kewa.
  • You start without knowing where Kewa is headed, making your job to build a connection.
  • Influencing the whale’s fragile situation carries risk to both the city’s future and the connection.
  • A free Steam demo is available for a limited preview of gameplay.

Balancing Monkey Games had previously said the game would arrive sometime this year, but after a long stretch of silence, it has now confirmed the exact date. On October 15, 2026, the “unusual journey through space” begins on PC.

City-building—carried by a living space whale

The gameplay begins like a familiar construction and management experience. You establish a settlement, expand it over time, search for useful resources, unlock new technologies, and keep residents satisfied as your civilization grows.

The twist is that all of it happens on the back of Kewa, a giant living space whale traveling through outer space. At the start, you don’t even know where Kewa’s destination might be, which raises the stakes for how you plan your expansion.

Build a connection to guide what happens next

As Kewa moves through the void, your most important task is to form a connection with the whale in order to better understand it and its emotions. Later in the game, that connection can allow you to indirectly influence where Kewa goes next.

This won’t be risk-free. The developers emphasize that Kewa—and therefore your settlement’s location—are highly sensitive. If you exert too much influence over the fragile world, it can lead to negative effects on the city’s future and also weaken the underlying connection to the space whale.

Beyond the main settlement, you’ll also be able to set up outposts across different star systems as you travel.

Try it free on Steam before release

If you want to test the concept before launch, Steam offers a free demo. It provides a limited slice of the full experience and is designed to help you get familiar with the key gameplay elements ahead of the PC release on October 15, 2026.
