ESRB M Rating for Stellar Blade on Switch 2 Suggests Launch

Nintendo Switch 2 owners may not have to wait much longer for Stellar Blade. The Entertainment Software Rating Board has now rated the game’s upcoming Switch 2 release in North America as “M for Mature,” a milestone that typically lands close to launch announcements.

ESRB rating points to an early Switch 2 release window

The ESRB listing for Stellar Blade on Nintendo’s next system carries an M rating, with content descriptors including blood and gore, language, violence, and suggestive themes. The ESRB’s rationale also references the game’s costumes and body physics—matching the overall basis used for the mature ratings on the PC and PlayStation 5 versions.

While Nintendo and Shift Up have not released a specific street date, ESRB ratings are often posted when a release is approaching, which suggests the Switch 2 port could arrive within the coming weeks.

What’s known about Switch 2 features—and DLC

Nintendo and Shift Up have confirmed that Switch 2 will make use of Joy-Con 2 gyro controls for activities such as fishing. The game will also be playable in handheld mode, though performance details such as resolution and frame rate have not been confirmed.

The ESRB entry also highlights a potential difference from other platforms: it suggests the Switch 2 version may not include in-game purchases. Since Stellar Blade has downloadable content sold separately on other platforms—including crossover expansions with Goddess of Victory: Nikke and NieR: Automata—it remains unclear whether Switch 2 will include any DLC, or if the content will be handled differently.

From PS5 exclusivity to PC, now heading to Switch 2

Stellar Blade launched as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive in April 2024. After its exclusivity period, it came to PC in June 2025, where it currently holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam.

The Switch 2 version was also among the lineup revealed during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, where a total of 33 new Switch 2 games were showcased, including titles such as a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Kingdom Hearts 4. Nintendo previously indicated that Stellar Blade is slated to arrive on the latest console sometime in 2026.

Gamescom timing could reveal a date

With no launch day confirmed yet, a potential reveal window may come later this summer. Nintendo has confirmed it will return to Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, with the event running August 26 through August 30 at the Koelnmesse fairgrounds. Although Nintendo has not outlined its 2026 show plans, games present on the show floor the previous year included Donkey Kong Bananza and Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Shift Up is also making the sequel

Beyond the Switch 2 port, Shift Up is developing a sequel titled Stellar Blade: Blood Rain. The studio plans to self-publish the sequel, but it has not been confirmed which platforms it will launch on.
