“Of the many herbal training programs I have seen, I consider the East West Herb Course to be one of the best introductions to the world of clinical herbal medicine currently available. It provides a detailed introduction to the broad world of Western and traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic herbalism, unlike most schools which only focus on one discipline. It is also one of the most innovative programs that combines distance learning with in-person study of multiple herbalists, and for those who desire it, a clinical mentorship program. I would recommend it to any serious herbal student who seeks a distance learning model.”
EAST WEST SCHOOL OF PLANETARY HERBOLOGY COURSES
The East West School of Planetary Herbology offers four advancing levels of herbal training to suit your individual interests and needs. All are written by Michael Tierra, O.M.D. and Lesley Tierra, L.AC. and are taken through distance learning (the EWCH also requires some on-site training).
OUTLINE OF THE FOUR ADVANCING HERBAL COURSES:
HOME HERBALIST: for beginners, this course emphasizes foundation herbal principles, herbal energetics, formulary, preparations remedies, and therapies so you can immediate begin using herbs right now for your own health and healing.
FAMILY HERBALIST: for beginning and intermediate study, this course builds on the Home Herbalist Course but includes more detailed information on food therapy, energy of illness, and assessment theories (based on Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicines), preparing you to use herbs to treat a variety of health complaints.
PROFESSIONAL HERBALIST: for beginning to advanced study, this course builds on both the Home and Family Herbal Courses but includes an extensive materia medica of over 600 herbs, covers 264 formulas, and describes treatment of 944 health conditions plus offers extensive and comprehensive indexes that make this course an incredibly useful and valuable clinical manual. After completion, many graduates use the information for their own and family health and healing needs, start community practices, develop commercial herbal products, teach, work in the natural health industry, or develop other herbal practice opportunities.
EAST WEST CLINICAL HERBALIST: for advanced study and practice, this program builds on the Professional Herbalist Course but adds the further requirements of attendance at the foundation, intermediate and advanced annual on-site seminar tracks, completion of the science courses – anatomy and physiology plus pathology and disease – and 400+ supervised mentoring hours of clinical case practice. Once approved for graduation from the course, the practitioner receives endorsement from Michael and Lesley Tierra and may advertise their practice on the school’s website.
