Sonic Team leader Takashi Iizuka says the studio is staying focused on long-term investment and ongoing post-launch support for projects that “stay true to the Sonic universe.” In an interview with 80LV, Iizuka highlighted two current efforts as examples of how the team plans to keep building on its existing releases and collaborations rather than moving on too quickly.

Iizuka pointed to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, noting that it is scheduled to receive a second season of content. He framed the game’s continued updates as part of a broader, consistent plan for post-release material—something the team also showcased during Summer Game Fest. For Iizuka, the move to a second season is meant to signal that the project has a long-term future, even in a market where maintaining momentum after launch can be difficult.

Beyond racing, Iizuka also referenced the Sonic x PICO PARK collaboration, calling it an “intriguing” example of how different initiatives can contribute meaningfully to the larger Sonic franchise. He said the team is looking forward to what’s next across these pillars, emphasizing that the goal is to deliver new content while preserving the identity and feel fans expect from Sonic.
