Where to Find Elden the Dragon in Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Materials

If you’ve spent enough time exploring Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ve likely seen multiple dragons circling the sky. There are three in total—Faren, Nayen, and Elden—and unlike many threats in the game, they aren’t hostile. That matters, because Elden is a straightforward source of valuable dragon materials you can use for armor upgrades, cooking, and elixirs.

Where to find Elden

You don’t need to complete any prerequisite and there’s no mission you must activate. Elden shows up the first time you begin exploring Hyrule—players who wait for specific conditions have reported it still appears without requiring you to do anything beforehand.

Elden can be found north of the Death Mountain area, above the Elden Range. The dragon will appear at the Great Fossil of Elden, which is the landmark you should head to.

Timing is important: Elden starts appearing at 5:00 AM. If you arrive earlier, you can use a campfire to rest until morning and avoid extended waiting.

How to farm Elden materials efficiently

1. Go to the Great Fossil of Elden and wait until 5:00 AM for Elden to appear.
2. Use Revali’s Power to reach the dragon quickly and aim your shots.
3. Choose where you hit: the material Elden drops depends on which part of the dragon you strike.
4. Remember that Elden drops only one material each time it appears, so you’ll need multiple visits if you want different items.

What you can get from Elden (and how)

Elden can drop different materials depending on the dragon body part you attack. Each item can be sold for Rupees or Monsters and can also be handed to the Great Fairy to help reinforce your armor.

• Scales: obtained by striking any body part of Elden except its mouth, horns, or legs. Sale value is 150 Rupees or 60 Mon.
• Horn: obtained by striking Elden’s horn. Sale value is 300 Rupees or 150 Mon.
• Claw: obtained by striking one of Elden’s legs. Sale value is 180 Rupees.
• Fang: obtained by striking Elden’s mouth. Sale value is 250 Rupees or 110 Mon.

With a little planning around the 5:00 AM spawn and the body-part targeting, Elden becomes a reliable way to stock up on the specific pieces you need for upgrades and crafting throughout your journey.
