Black Flag Resynced Adds “In a World Without Gold” Arc for Edward
“Black Flag Resynced” adds a new story arc called “In a World Without Gold,” tasking Edward with recruiting a gunner aboard the Kawka while hunting down the killer of Blackbeard—Lieutenant Robert Maynard. The arc unlocks only after completing the main mission “Everything Is Allowed” and both officers’ storylines for Lucy and Padre, and it culminates in a scripted confrontation with Maynard that finishes the entire plot line.
Edward’s hunt begins with Lucy and Padre
To start the arc’s first leg, players must follow Anne Bonny after a tavern cutscene on Great Inagua, then bring the initial task to completion on board the Kawka.
The next step moves to Kingston, southwest of the city, where a derelict barn sits near the shore. Entry is via a hole above the front doors. Inside, players examine three clues: a document carried by a guard within the barn, a letter pinned to a wall on the ground floor, and a crate outside by the back doors. After collecting the clues, the job returns to the Kawka.
Sea battle: HMS Demolition and a boarding finish
One of the core missions is an open-water fight against the line ship HMS Demolition off the Cow Island. The battle escalates with up to six enemy ships in addition to the target.
The recommended approach is to ignore the rest of the fleet, chase Demolition, and fall behind any escort. Players are told to stay close to the ship’s side, using chain-shot to slow it when needed, and to keep firing from the broadside.
While Lucy’s timed defensive ability is available—allowing a drastic damage reduction when she takes cover behind obstacles—players should be able to trade fire directly and disable Demolition. Once the line ship is taken out, the mission ends with a boarding action.
Officer support tasks on Great Inagua
Another mission step on Great Inagua requires helping the arc’s officers. Players must:
- Help Padre carry a rum crate to the crew, then defeat them in a fistfight.
- Follow Lucy and demonstrate her shooting ability by firing at three targets each time Lucy calls out a direction.
- Speak with the Undead on the beach.
After completing these tasks, players return to the estate to recruit the Undead into the crew. As a gunner, he provides the second salvo ability: if players remain in aiming mode after firing broadside cannons, an extra salvo is fired automatically after a short moment.
“Ally by necessity”: a Maynard armada push
Players then stand alongside several Spanish ships to fight the armada of Maynard. The encounter is structured as three waves of enemy vessels. Individual ships are described as fairly weak, but the most dangerous are the frigates, which are numerous enough to test endurance.
A key tactic is to use a mortar to sink ships from a distance. Immediate boarding is discouraged. However, once boarding does happen, the mission notes that the Kawka can be repaired right away, turning disabled ships into improvised supplies for recovery.
Assassination objective and a plantation trail
In Nassau, players talk to Lucy, then head south to kill Maynard’s treasurer. The mission offers multiple approaches: the treasurer can be shot before engaging the guard force openly, or players can use a berserker arrow on one of the guards and let that target kill everyone. Afterward, the treasurer’s body is searched and Lucy is revisited.
On Tortuga, players dock at an isolated beach and follow Lucy to a plantation. The route is described as having few guards, allowing enemies to be bypassed by staying in the bushes. The destination is a villa on top of a hill, where players find three clues inside: a stuffed animal on the ground floor, a portrait on the upper level, and a letter also on the second floor.
After a cutscene, players escape through a window, chase Lucy to the Kawka docked in front of them, and sail away from Tortuga. Along the route, the mission requires sinking six enemy frigates, again using mortar fire and sinking immobilized ships as needed for healing support.
Port Royal assault and the scripted showdown
The final mission of the “In a World Without Gold” arc brings an attack on Port Royal and a direct fight with Maynard.
At the start, three objectives must be completed:
- Follow the Undead to a burning warehouse, fight several British soldiers, kill them all, and then deal with outside reinforcements.
- With Lucy, destroy Maynard’s gunpowder supplies using three gunpowder barrel stockpiles. The mission notes that blowing them up for stealth is not effective, so players can approach barrels for interaction—either set them on fire or shoot them with a pistol.
- Help Padre free prisoners held in a jail (the same prison referenced by an earlier mission involving Mary and Anne), including using an explosives distraction: a gunpowder barrel can be used on the courtyard to pull guards away from the prison doors. Players then descend into the dungeon, kill all enemies, and free two prisoners.
After that, players move to Maynard’s ship moored at the shore. Encounters are limited to a handful of guards. Players interact with a hatch on deck, destroy three gunpowder barrels beneath the deck, examine a letter near the ship’s bow, and then meet the officers at the docks.
Next, players go under a church where they are ambushed. They must defeat all soldiers, return to the docks, and board the Kawka.
Maynard’s fleet: skippers and the “mines” mechanic
The confrontation that follows is described as simpler than expected, since Maynard’s armada consists mainly of schooners. Players are instructed to immediately blow up thrown gunpowder barrels, using them to sink enemy ships with the armada’s own ordinance.
The next step is a duel with Maynard’s flagship, HMS Ipswich. This fight is heavily scripted: Ipwich is nearly immune to damage, and the only reliable way to seriously wound it is through its deployed mines.
Players must fight the flagship’s escort and watch for a warning signal—a white flare and the sound of a ship’s siren. Those cues indicate Ipswich has scattered mines under itself. The mission instructs players to shoot the mines with folgers (follow-up fire) to damage the flagship. This cycle is repeated three times. After the battleship’s health bar is depleted, players board by ramming.
Final boss: Maynard’s combat pattern and the end of the arc
After a cutscene, players face Maynard in a melee duel. The fight is scripted as well: players should parry his attacks and perform the specified knockdowns to deal damage.
Maynard’s combo rules are consistent: he uses two slashes that do not mix colors—either two blue attacks that require parrying, or two red attacks that require dodging/evading. If a parry lands on one of the arena’s standard enemies, players can knock that foe down and continue chaining knockdowns onto Maynard.
The arc ends when the lieutenant is defeated, which also completes the entire “In a World Without Gold” storyline.
