If you haven’t tried Baldur’s Gate 3 yet, there’s currently a discount running across PC and console editions of Larian’s Dungeons & Dragons RPG. The game is on sale on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with platform-specific deals scheduled to end at different times.
Background: what Baldur’s Gate 3 is
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a computer role-playing game set in the Forgotten Realms—one of the official D&D worlds. It takes inspiration from tabletop play and broadly follows the rules framework of D&D 5th edition, including character classes, ability scores, spells, dice rolls, and advantage/disadvantage mechanics.
Players can either create their own hero or take on pre-made characters, such as Astarion (high elf vampire), Lae’zel (githyanki warrior), or Gale (human wizard). The party can include up to four characters, and the game supports online co-op for up to four players.
Story and gameplay overview
The adventure begins with you being captured by “mind flayers,” who implant a mysterious parasite in your brain. After escaping, your goal becomes straightforward but urgent: figure out what’s happening and find a way to remove the parasite before it changes you permanently.
The main campaign is split into three acts: the Wilds, the Cursed Lands, and the Baldur’s Gate arc. Depending on how you play, the game’s estimated length is roughly 100 to 200 hours.
