EA Sports FC 27 is getting a genuinely free way to play, thanks to a standalone “Lite” edition designed to let you try selected parts of the full game without paying. While EA Play may offer trials, FC 27 Lite is positioned as a free download in its own right, giving players access to a limited set of modes and content from the standard release.

Where you can play FC 27 Lite (and where you can’t)

FC 27 Lite has been announced for almost every platform that also supports the paid version of EA Sports FC 27. That includes PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA app, as well as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and Xbox One plus Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo platforms are the exception: the Lite version will not be available on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2.

Release timing and how to download it for free

The free FC 27 Lite download will go live at the same time the standard EA Sports FC 27 version launches: September 25, 2026 at 16:00 UTC (18:00 in Spain’s peninsular time). After that, players can pick it up directly from the digital storefronts for their platform, including PS Store for PS4/PS5, Microsoft Store for Xbox One and Series X|S, and the PC stores (Steam, Epic Games Store, or EA app) for the PC version.

To actually play, you’ll need an internet connection that remains available and also an EA account.

What’s included in the free edition

FC 27 Lite is structured as a smaller preview of the full experience, similar in spirit to past “showcase” style free editions. At launch, it includes a free preview of selected content from the base game rather than the complete feature set.

The included mode is Kick-Off (quick matches), which is the default access point in the Lite edition. In Kick-Off, you can play friendly matches either against the game’s AI or against friends in local multiplayer on the same platform. The mode also provides a selection of teams from the current season along with options and custom settings.

Importantly, EA Sports FC 27 Lite players can upgrade to the standard game or a higher edition at any time. The upgrade is designed to unlock the rest of the content immediately without requiring you to lose your initial settings.

EA has not confirmed whether FC 27 Lite will receive additional free modes over time through future updates. However, at launch the Lite edition does not provide access to major, deeper game modes such as Ultimate Team, Career, or the newly named social space The Grounds—those remain exclusive to paid versions.
