Leaked Game Freak documentary reveals beta Pokémon designs for Diamond & Pearl
A leaked internal documentary from Game Freak covering the development of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl has surfaced online, bringing with it a collection of beta concepts and Pokémon designs that never made it into the final games.
Leaked “behind the scenes” DVD footage from Diamond & Pearl
The material comes from a Pokémon Diamond and Pearl: Behind the Scenes DVD titled “Make All.” The documentary reportedly documents the studio’s two-year development history for the original fourth-generation entries. Although the DVD was never released publicly, a copy of it was uploaded online to the Internet Archive before being widely discussed after the leak.
Scrapped and beta Pokémon designs highlighted
Multiple early designs shown in the footage have been compiled and circulated, including Pokémon that were ultimately cut or left only as prototypes. The set of items highlighted includes:
- Scrapped Delibird evolution
- Scrapped water starter Pokémon
- Potential beta evolution for Glameow
- Potentially scrapped Lumineon evolution
Japanese-only documentary; fans may translate
Viewers who want to watch the documentary itself should note that the footage is entirely in Japanese. Even so, the leak’s visibility is likely to spur fan-made translations or subtitled versions in the future.
Another leak from the same era
This isn’t the first time Diamond and Pearl have had unfinished content emerge. In 2019, beta sprites from the games were uncovered, showing that scrapped assets from this project have continued to resurface years after release.
