Arda Guler backed to shine as Real Madrid face Sevilla injury crisis
Arda Guler is in Real Madrid’s squad for Sunday’s La Liga meeting with Sevilla, with Jose Mourinho backing the 21-year-old to make an impact as the hosts deal with absences in attack.
Vinicius Junior is suspended, while other forward options are unavailable, increasing the value of Guler’s ability to play in midfield or further forward. The Turkey international joins Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni among Madrid’s midfield options for the Santiago Bernabeu contest.
Mourinho said he has been pleased by Guler’s effort and progress, insisting the youngster should receive greater recognition for the work he has put in. The Madrid boss argued that attention too often goes to a young player’s small errors rather than his positive contribution.
He described Guler as a highly gifted player, while stressing that the 21-year-old is still developing rather than being the finished article. Mourinho also pointed to his versatility as a major asset for the side during a demanding run of domestic and European fixtures.
Madrid take on a Sevilla team managed by Luis Garcia and currently fifth in the table. Mourinho expects a difficult evening, but made clear that his side’s target is victory.
The hosts are aiming to preserve their perfect home record this season. A win would maintain Real Madrid’s domestic momentum, with Guler pushing for a more prominent part in the team.
