Last season’s output Six goals and 14 assists

The Turkey international has signed his first extension since arriving in Madrid and is committing his prime years to the reigning European champions. Talks had been under way for several weeks after emerging in September.

Guler is now in his fourth campaign at the Bernabeu and has moved from highly rated prospect to an increasingly important figure in the side. He has started five matches this season after making 40 starts in all competitions last term.

His six-goal, 14-assist return last season made him Madrid’s leading assist provider, underlining his growing role as one of the team’s main creative outlets.

Under Jose Mourinho, Guler has become a more regular starter after facing fierce competition for minutes during his early seasons in the squad. The midfielder has also been linked with a desire for greater responsibility in a central role following Toni Kroos’ retirement.

Mourinho has publicly praised the player’s rise, saying those working with Guler every day are best placed to judge his progress, but that his “natural brilliance cannot be denied”.

Madrid continue long-term squad plan

Guler’s deal is part of Madrid’s drive to secure their younger core on lengthy contracts. Aurelien Tchouameni, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Carreras and Espe are all tied to the club for another seven years.

Vinicius Junior and Marc Cucurella have agreements through 2032, while summer arrival Ousmane Diomande is under contract until 2033.

Next, Madrid are expected to turn to Thibaut Courtois. The veteran Belgian goalkeeper is in line for at least another year at the club as Madrid look to retain an established No. 1 while their younger outfield group develops.
