My name is Emily Martin. I’m originally from the small town of Jena, Louisiana but currently live in Alabama. After graduating high school, I earned my BA in Elementary Education. With my husband’s military career and our family moving every 2-3 years we decided I would stay home with our children. Eventually figuring out that teaching small children was not the direction for me, I decided to turn my attention elsewhere. In 2014, after having our third child and always looking for something to keep busy, I became interested in Aromatherapy. In 2017, I became Certified Aromatherapist through the Aromahead Institute.
It was after completing my Aromatherapy Certification that I decided to further my education. I felt limited in just studying aromatherapy so I decided to start learning more about herbs. I began dabbling in herbalism during my aromatherapy studies, but I felt like there was so much more I could learn. I realized that essential oils are just one way to use the herb, the whole herb has so much more to offer. I began purchasing herb books, reading herb related websites and blogs, and joining Facebook groups. In 2018, I started researching herb schools and found my way to East West School of Planetary Herbology. Knowing that Michael and Lesley Tierra had a long legacy of teaching very accomplished herbalists, I decided that was the direction to go.
During my one year at EWHS I have learned more than I ever thought possible. I feel like I can truly help others with what I’m being taught. Before coming into EWHS I knew nothing about Traditional Chinese Medicine and had limited knowledge of Western Herbalism. I now feel as though I can look at the body as a whole and see how everything is connected. I have developed a confidence in helping my clients I know I would not have otherwise. I love knowing I have so many tools to help others in a natural way. I still have a lifetime of learning ahead of me, but I am so eager to learn.
When I’m not spending my days working on my studies, I love to read, exercise, and watch television shows that don’t require deep thinking. Since all three of my children are school aged, I spend my afternoons and evenings taking children to sports activities and enjoying my time with my family. When my husband eventually retires from the military and we settle down in one location my goal is to open an herbal clinic. I plan to focus on family practice helping men, women, and children of all ages. You can find me on website and social media.
