Mikel Arteta said Zubimendi is “much, much better” after the midfielder suffered the problem following the win over Leeds United. The Spain international is expected to be available again for Saturday’s Premier League visit to Nottingham Forest.
Hincapie’s outlook is less encouraging. Arteta said the defender is progressing, but described the injury as more significant and indicated that his absence is likely to last weeks, with no firm return date yet set.
Arsenal will travel to the City Ground before turning their focus to a major Champions League test in Germany next week. Victory over Bayern Munich would take their league-phase winning sequence to 15 games.
The Gunners arrive in strong form after beating Lille on Tuesday, making it two victories from two in Europe this campaign. Their current 14-match run in the competition’s league phase stretches back almost two years.
Mikel Merino believes the squad are equipped to challenge on every front after lifting the Premier League title last season, ending a 22-year wait for the championship.
Arsenal have won nine of their first 10 matches in all competitions this term. Their only setback was a surprise 3-0 loss at Brighton, a result that left them three points behind Manchester City in the league standings.
Merino said the players recognise the significance of their European record, but also understand how demanding it is to keep winning. He made clear that the target is to claim the Champions League, retain the Premier League and compete for every available trophy.
The midfielder added that last season’s Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, decided on penalties, has sharpened the group’s resolve. Arsenal were close, he said, and that experience convinced the players they can go further this time if they deliver in the decisive moments.
