After a long wait since Baldur’s Gate 3 launched in August 2023, there’s still no new mainline sequel on the horizon—but there is a new Baldur’s Gate release arriving on July 21. Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro aren’t announcing a game yet, but fans who want something tangible for their tabletop sessions and collections can look forward to a hardcover notebook tied directly to the series’ in-game story item.

Hardcover grid-paper notebook Announced for release July 21, 2026 $25

The item is Baldur’s Gate 3: The Necromancy of Thay, a hardcover grid-paper notebook published by Penguin Random House. It’s positioned for “journaling, sketching, adventuring, and more,” with a design meant to help Dungeon Masters draft ideas for their next Dungeons & Dragons campaign.

The notebook’s look is based on its appearance as an item in Baldur’s Gate 3’s main questline, so players should recognize its distinctive design style right away. It includes 272 pages, giving plenty of space for notes, planning, and campaign organization.

One tabletop-friendly detail is also clearly called out: despite being themed around the in-game item, the notebook does not provide any ability to cast the “Speak with Dead” spell—unlike the equivalent in-game functionality.

Why this matters to players right now

For many fans, Baldur’s Gate 3 remains the most recent major entry in the series, and that has left a gap that other formats can’t fully replace. While a notebook won’t replicate a new CRPG, this release is targeted at the part of the community that translates story ideas into tabletop play—especially DMs who want a dedicated place to sketch encounters, track plots, and keep campaign details organized.

It also offers an official collector-oriented way to stay connected to the series’ lore and iconography while waiting for any future Baldur’s Gate game announcement.

What’s next for the franchise (and what’s still unknown)

Despite the collectible release, a new Baldur’s Gate game still isn’t expected any time soon. One of the lead designers connected to the first two games has said they turned down an opportunity to develop Baldur’s Gate 4 after learning Larian wouldn’t be returning. The reasoning given was that the expectations set by Larian are unusually difficult for other studios to match.

Meanwhile, Larian’s next project has been revealed: at The Game Awards 2025, the studio announced a new Divinity game, returning to its original IP for the first time since Divinity: Original Sin 2 in 2017. Larian also promised the new Divinity title will be even bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3 in scale, though whether it can meet that bar remains unclear.

For now, the only confirmed date tied to the Baldur’s Gate brand is the notebook’s planned July 21, 2026 release. Until any game updates arrive, tabletop-focused fans will have to make do with lore-adjacent gear rather than a new campaign on PC.
