Pearl Abyss has confirmed that Crimson Desert will receive its first DLC before the end of 2026, even as part of the studio’s development team is reportedly being shifted from Crimson Desert to DokeV. While the company has not revealed what the expansion will include, recent player findings suggest the add-on may introduce a maritime theme—pushing the world beyond its current playable boundaries.

A community video shared by YouTube user NANGPLE highlights map changes noticed after recent updates to Crimson Desert. The most striking clues point to alterations that make room for new sea-related content, starting with improved visibility of the ocean area in the game’s northern desert region. Players also reportedly found a mysterious sunken island to the east of the map when using a weather-related mod, suggesting the coastline and underwater spaces may be expanding in planned ways.

Further observations include changes around the island located south of the explorable area. With water levels lowered, players say they can see more refined coastal details, including rocks and algae, as well as a beach and a sea route connecting two islands. The video also points to adjustments in South Island, a region outside the playable map that appears to be getting prepared for future expansion.

If the first DLC truly extends the map into the sea, the likely outcome is new naval-style mechanics—things like open-sea navigation, naval combat, or maritime missions. The design direction could be inspired by historic open-water gameplay from earlier Assassin’s Creed entries, though Pearl Abyss has not confirmed any specific systems yet.

Beyond mechanics, a sea-focused expansion could also broaden Crimson Desert’s narrative. The world of Pywel already relies on regional diversity for both threats and culture, and adding new coastal areas would be a natural way to introduce unknown dangers, new communities, or deeper lore. Pearl Abyss has previously promised improvements to the game’s storytelling, and an ocean expansion would give it an avenue to explore additional plot threads—such as lost civilizations or supernatural events.
