Diablo 4 Season 14 Patch Removes One-Crafted Mythic Equip Restriction

Blizzard has rolled back the most heated Diablo 4 Season 14 change: a surprise patch removed the restriction that limited players to equipping only one crafted Mythic at a time. The adjustment landed on PC on July 16 and is scheduled to arrive on console on July 17, alongside buffs to Mythic and Iconic Mythic drop rates tied to a new seasonal Lair Boss.

Season 14 restriction removed in surprise July patch

In patch 3.1.1a, Blizzard removed the “one equipped crafted-Mythic” limitation that was introduced with the Season of Death Awakening. Alongside that rollback, the studio increased Mythic and Iconic Mythic drop rates from the new seasonal Lair Boss.

Blizzard framed the move as a response to player feedback, noting in a forum post from Dan Tanguay, design director for live service on Diablo 4, that the team has heard concerns related to Mythic Unique drop rates, the equip limit, and more.

Tanguay also emphasized how Diablo 4 seasons function as a testing ground for new systems. “Seasons are where we experiment with new ideas and push Diablo 4 in new directions,” he said. He added that while not every change lands as intended, the team will keep listening and applying lessons to future seasonal updates.

Horadric Cube Mythic Upgrade changes delayed to Season 15

Blizzard did not reverse all of Season 14’s Mythic controversy at once. Another major flashpoint—changes to the Horadric Cube’s Mythic Upgrade function—will be adjusted, but the update is delayed until the next season.

As the system currently works, Mythic Upgrade does not behave like a straightforward upgrade path. Instead, it takes a Unique item and transforms it into a different Mythic Unique item, a workflow that players have said is confusing. Blizzard confirmed that this will change, but the studio did not provide details in the patch notes and said the modification won’t arrive until Season 15, which is expected several months from now.

Recent Mythic crafting boost set the stage for the rollback

The July 16 patch came shortly after another Diablo 4 update on July 14. That earlier change increased the drop rates for Pandemonium Fragments used to convert Uniques into Mythics with the cube, and it also reduced the number of fragments required.

That combination pushed Mythic crafting closer to “record pace,” letting players create more Mythics than ever—though the one-equipped crafted-Mythic limit still prevented full loadout freedom unless players happened to find an appropriate Mythic “in the wild” through extremely lucky drops. With the restriction removed, the crafted items can now be used in the player’s build without that cap.

Mythic Uniques 3.0 remains in place

Even with the rollback, Blizzard has stopped short of undoing its broader Mythic overhaul. Season 14’s endgame restructure—described by the studio as “Mythic Uniques 3.0”—also included a nerf to previously existing Mythics, now referred to as Iconic Mythics.

After Season 14, Blizzard states that any Unique can potentially be found or crafted into an even stronger Mythic version, which it says should expand endgame build variety. The company also indicated the change is intended to be the new standard beyond the season, and in an interview it said the update is for Diablo 4’s long-term health.
