Georgina Rodriguez has deleted an Instagram Story aimed at Portugal coach Jorge Jesus after publicly defending Cristiano Ronaldo over his abrupt departure from the national squad.

Rodriguez shared a graphic carrying an unverified attribution to Sir Alex Ferguson which questioned why Ronaldo had been selected if Jesus did not intend to use him. The message argued that calling up a player merely to prove a point was a sign of insecurity rather than authority. Rodriguez then added a personal post referring to the coach’s surname, writing that she did not understand how he could bear the name “Jesus”. The Story disappeared within minutes.

Her intervention has taken the row beyond a selection issue and into a public clash involving Ronaldo’s family. His sister, Elma Aveiro, has also criticised the treatment of the forward in Portugal, posting “Tudo dito” — “everything said” — alongside a message targeting the national media’s coverage.

Portugal have continued preparing with the 24 players still in camp. Jesus has rejected suggestions of a feud, maintaining that selection remains his responsibility alone and that every member of the squad is judged by the same standards.

Ronaldo has not announced his retirement from international football. His next statement is now expected to clarify whether he intends to continue with Portugal while Jesus remains in charge.
