Getafe Explore Jadon Sancho Move but Salary Demands Pose Major Hurdle

Jadon Sancho is a free agent after his Manchester United spell formally ended, and Getafe are exploring a move for the 26-year-old winger — but his reported €4 million salary expectation is currently far beyond the La Liga club’s reach.

Getafe want to strengthen their attack for the second half of the campaign and see Sancho as a potential statement addition. Head coach Jose Bordalas rates the former Borussia Dortmund player highly and believes his technical ability could help him recover the level that once made him one of football’s costliest transfers.

The immediate problem is the gap between Sancho’s personal demands and Getafe’s wage structure. Meeting those terms would place major pressure on the Madrid club’s budget, so any agreement would need a different formula. A shorter contract or a package weighted towards appearances, performances and bonuses could be considered as talks continue.

What happens next will depend on whether Sancho is prepared to lower his fixed salary in return for the chance to play regularly again. Getafe are hoping that the prospect of returning to competitive action will help unlock a compromise, with the club targeting a push from mid-table towards the top half of La Liga.

Sancho’s representatives have also examined other markets. Krasnodar, the Russian champions, were offered the England international but chose not to pursue a deal. It underlines the sharp change in his standing since Manchester United paid €85 million to sign him from Dortmund.

His Old Trafford years brought limited regular football and disciplinary issues, including a public dispute with the management. The absence of a firm approach from a Champions League-level club has further reflected his decline from the player who starred in the Bundesliga.

Even if Getafe complete a deal soon, Sancho would not be available for their UEFA Conference League meeting with Ajax on December 17. The registration window for the current phase has already closed, leaving any new signing unable to feature until the knockout rounds. He would initially be restricted to domestic matches as he works to rebuild his fitness, with the 23-cap England international seeking a route back to form.
