Gothic Remake Quest Guide: The Chosen Path to Grazkrak and Sleeper’s Temple

In Gothic Remake, reaching the orc enclave starts the main quest “Chosen Path,” which then funnels you into a specific route: survive a mandatory duel with Grazkrak, convince the right shaman for cooperation, and finally unlock the way into the Sleeper’s Temple. The quest is structured around key NPC meetings, dialogue-based access checks, and a final barrier interaction that triggers a new, larger quest.

Key takeaways

  • The quest “Chosen Path” begins automatically at the end of the orc enclave segment, when you meet Ur-Shak at the orc city entrance.
  • You cannot avoid the duel: heading far enough west triggers Grazkrak to challenge the Nameless to a fight with no escape options.
  • To unlock access to the Sleeper’s Temple, you must take the southern route and follow dialogue steps that allow entry to Ur-Nazkrog’s camp.
  • After completing the related ritual quest “Honor of a Warrior,” you can return to Ur-Nazkrog and proceed to the temple passage.
  • At the temple approach, you’ll need to interact with the magical barrier to cross it and start “Nightmare of the Sleeper,” earning XP (default 1000).

How “Chosen Path” gets unlocked

“Chosen Path” starts automatically right after the end of the prior orc enclave mission. You’ll meet Ur-Shak at the entrance to the orc city. Approach the large gate and show the orcs the Ulu-Mulu staff—this is what grants you access to their enclave.

Your overarching objective is to reach the Sleeper’s Temple. At first, you won’t be allowed into some parts of the locations as an outsider, so you must follow the required steps to earn the necessary access.

The Grazkrak duel you can’t skip

Move a short distance west until Grazkrak appears and challenges the Nameless to a duel. The fight is mandatory: you can’t back out, and dialogue choices all lead to confrontation.

Grazkrak pushes hard into melee combat. The recommended approach is to create space and wait out the end of his combo sequence, then land one or two of your own attacks. Stay inside the duel arena and don’t try to strike other orcs watching the fight, even accidentally.

Unlocking the Sleeper’s Temple route

Once the duel is over, choose the southern passage. You’ll encounter Umakhal, who will follow the protagonist to ensure the Nameless doesn’t perform any forbidden actions. You can’t force Umakhal away by force.

On the way south, it’s also worth visiting the western stronghold of the chieftain. Inside the cave you can speak with the chieftain To-Churnaggi, and you can find a map of the orc enclave to make navigation easier.

Get to Ur-Nazkrog’s southern camp

Your destination is the southern tent where the highest shaman Ur-Nazkrog stays. Krashok guards the entrance, but you only need to exhaust the dialogue options to be allowed inside.

From Ur-Nazkrog you learn that you first need to complete a ritual. Doing so unlocks the related quest “Honor of a Warrior” (with its progression detailed on a separate guide page).

After you finish “Honor of a Warrior,” return to Ur-Nazkrog. Only then can you head toward the Sleeper’s Temple. The passage to the temple is to the right of the tent where the shaman was located, and it’s near where Ur-Shak stands.

Before going in, make sure you’re fully healed and carry a large supply of food and potions, since the temple area includes multiple boss encounters as well as many tough fights with regular enemies.

Entering the Sleeper’s Temple and starting the next quest

Near the temple, you’ll see a magical barrier surrounding it. Approach the spot where the barrier can be inspected—this triggers a conversation involving Ur-Nazkrog and To-Churnagg.

Interact with the barrier to cross to the other side and enter the temple. You’ll receive XP (default 1000) and begin the larger next quest, “Nightmare of the Sleeper.”
