Marcus Hale 27 October 2026

Alex Iwobi has matched Mohamed Salah as the African player with the second-highest number of Premier League appearances, moving within 25 matches of Kolo Toure’s all-time record.

What we know

The Nigeria midfielder now shares second place on the African Premier League appearance list with Egypt forward Salah.
Former Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool defender Toure remains top of the standings.
Iwobi needs 25 more Premier League outings to draw level with Toure’s record.
The landmark underlines Iwobi’s sustained presence in England’s top flight.

What happens next

Iwobi’s next Premier League appearance will take him one game nearer to Toure. He can move clear of Salah outright with a further league outing, while the record remains within reach if he maintains regular selection.
