Andoni Iraola’s side completed a 2-1 comeback at Brentford but finished with fresh fitness concerns after Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong were forced off.

Szoboszlai aggravated an existing injury and departed in the 32nd minute, with Trey Nyoni taking his place. Frimpong was introduced at half-time to provide more width, only to suffer an injury six minutes later. Rio Ngumoha replaced him in the 52nd minute.

Two Brentford red cards change the contest

Brentford led through Keane Lewis-Potter’s header before the interval, despite the visitors controlling 60% of possession. The match turned in first-half stoppage time when Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off for violent conduct after headbutting Jeremy Jacquet.

  1. Lewis-Potter put Brentford ahead with a first-half header.
  2. Yarmoliuk was dismissed just before the break, leaving the home side with 10 men.
  3. Victor Munoz levelled on 62 minutes with a left-footed finish, assisted by Florian Wirtz.
  4. Alexander Isak struck the decisive goal in the 70th minute after Bradley Barcola headed the ball into his path.
  5. Brentford captain Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card in stoppage time for bringing down Ngumoha during a counter-attack.

Who is affected

  • Dominik Szoboszlai: Forced off in the first half after worsening a pre-existing injury.
  • Jeremie Frimpong: Suffered an injury shortly after coming on at the break.
  • Yehor Yarmoliuk: Sent off for violent conduct and will face a suspension.
  • Vitaly Janelt: Dismissed for a second booking and is also set to miss the next match through suspension.
  • Ronald Araujo: Replaced at half-time as Iraola reshaped his side for a more attacking second half.

Alexis Mac Allister controlled the midfield after the restart, while Virgil van Dijk marshalled the defence as Brentford managed only two shots on target. Joseph Gomez and Lewis Koumas were both introduced in the 79th minute to help protect the lead and maintain the press.

What happens next

The immediate focus is on assessments for Szoboszlai and Frimpong after their injuries. Brentford must also plan without Yarmoliuk and Janelt for their next fixture following the pair’s dismissals.
