Lilian Raolisoa had put Angers ahead in the 14th minute, but Marseille recovered before half-time. Himad Abdelli levelled in the 37th minute after captain Timothy Weah helped create the opening, before Nouhoum Kamissoko completed the turnaround six minutes later from the veteran full-back’s assist.

Bruno Genesio’s side stayed on the front foot with their 4-2-3-1 shape and Amine Gouiri made it 3-1 on 60 minutes. Gouiri repeatedly dropped away from the front line to connect Marseille’s attacks and was involved in 21 shots across the afternoon.

El Ouazzani converted from the spot in the 75th minute to give Angers a route back, but Marseille did not retreat. A yellow card for Nnadi in the 74th minute was followed by a decisive contribution at the other end, as he set up Amine Harit for Marseille’s fourth in the 83rd minute.

Weah then supplied Igor Paixao in the 85th minute to complete the scoring. The stand-in skipper produced assists for both Abdelli and Paixao during an energetic 85-minute display, combining defensive work with regular overlapping runs.

Marseille’s control tells after early setback

Marseille’s higher defensive line was exposed for Raolisoa’s opener, yet their pressure and possession gradually pushed Angers back. They created eight efforts on target and consistently found space between the home side’s lines, with Paixao’s movement helping open routes for Gouiri and Harit.

Goalkeeper De Lange was required to make only one save. He could do little about either Angers goal, while his passing helped Marseille sustain their 58% share of possession and play out from the back.

Egan-Riley recovered from the uncertain opening period to deal with El Ouazzani’s physical threat, while Kondogbia added protection in midfield and defence before Nayef Aguerd replaced him on the hour. Aguerd helped close out the win despite joining the defensive group before Angers won their penalty.

Kamissoko’s 43rd-minute strike proved a pivotal moment, and he also made frequent recoveries in central areas before his 80th-minute withdrawal. His replacement helped Marseille keep the ball in the final stretch, while Abdelli was also taken off in the 80th minute after his key first-half equaliser.

Harit remained a creative outlet until being substituted in the 90th minute, finding ways through Angers’ press before adding his late goal. Two further substitutes arrived in stoppage time and had little opportunity to influence the match.

What happens next: The result lifts Marseille in the Ligue 1 standings after a performance built on sustained attacking pressure, clinical finishing and a forceful response to Angers’ early lead.
