Pokémon Bank Shuts Down in Early 2027—Move Your 3DS Pokémon to Home
Pokémon Bank, the long-running transfer service for Pokémon stored on Nintendo 3DS systems, will be turned off in early 2027. If you still have Pokémon saved on a 3DS, you’ll need to move them to Pokémon Home before the shutdown—after that, this transfer route will no longer work.
Quick facts
- Pokémon Bank stops on 26 February 2027 at 12:00.
- Downloads of Pokémon Bank are already no longer available.
- To transfer from a 3DS, Pokémon Bank must still be installed on your device.
- A transfer key is generated in Pokémon Home and entered into Pokémon Bank on the 3DS.
- After the cutoff, transfers from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home won’t be possible.
Pokémon Bank will be discontinued on 26 February 2027 at 12:00. For players with Pokémon stored in older 3DS titles—such as Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon—that date is a critical deadline. The service is the only way to move those older 3DS Pokémon into Pokémon Home via this specific workflow.
Transfer is still possible—if Pokémon Bank is already installed
While you can’t download Pokémon Bank anymore, players who still have the application installed on their 3DS can continue transferring Pokémon. The process is accessed through the Pokémon Bank main menu, where you should be prompted to move your stored boxes into Pokémon Home.
You’ll also need a transfer key. That key is created from the main menu of Pokémon Home, then entered into Pokémon Bank on your 3DS. Once the key is accepted, you can start transferring the Pokémon you selected. If you’re moving Pokémon from multiple older games or transferring a large collection, plan extra time for the procedure.
The cutoff ends transfers from Pokémon Bank permanently
After 26 February 2027, transferring from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home will no longer be available. That also means you won’t be able to use this former path to bring Pokémon from older 3DS games into newer Pokémon releases on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Pokémon that are already stored in Pokémon Home are not affected. The key point is timing: if you want specific Pokémon to be usable in current-era titles, they must be moved into Pokémon Home before the service is shut down.
Pokémon Bank will therefore mark the end of a major chapter in how players preserved and carried Pokémon across generations. For anyone with Pokémon still sitting on an old 3DS, the practical advice is straightforward: don’t delay the transfer until after the shutdown date.
