Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Barcelona and will undergo surgery in the coming days.

PSG confirm major Kvaratskhelia setback

The Georgia international suffered the injury during Tuesday’s Champions League win over Barcelona, dealing a severe blow to PSG’s campaign.

Kvaratskhelia, 25, was hurt in a 59th-minute collision with Barcelona’s Xavi Espart and was carried off by PSG’s medical team. The club have not set a return date, but an ACL rupture commonly requires a recovery period of at least nine months, leaving him unlikely to play again in 2026-27.

The former Napoli winger will now prepare for an operation on the damaged right knee.

More injury problems after Barcelona win

PSG’s victory came at a further cost, with Ousmane Dembélé and captain Marquinhos also expected to miss several weeks.

  • Dembélé was forced off after 19 minutes with an injury to his left thigh.
  • Marquinhos sustained a problem in his right thigh.
  • Kvaratskhelia faces a long-term absence following surgery for his ACL injury.

Dembélé, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, and Marquinhos add to a growing selection concern for the Champions League holders.

League Phase lead secured

PSG strengthened their position at the top of the Champions League League Phase with the Barcelona result, but their immediate focus now turns back to domestic action.

The French champions travel to Ligue 1 leaders Lyon on Sunday for a top-of-the-table meeting, with the squad set to be tested by the fresh injuries.

What happens next

Kvaratskhelia will have surgery shortly before beginning rehabilitation, while PSG assess the expected absences of Dembélé and Marquinhos ahead of the trip to Lyon.
