PSG Pay €3.3m for First Refusal on Braga Midfielder Mario Dorgeles
Paris Saint-Germain have paid Braga €3.3m for first refusal on midfielder Dorgeles, securing priority if the Portuguese club decide to sell the 22-year-old.
The arrangement does not bring Dorgeles to Paris immediately and includes no obligation for a future transfer. Instead, PSG have bought a preferential position over any potential deal, with the clause covering all of the player’s sporting and economic rights. The payment is equivalent to around £2.9m.
How PSG secured their position
- Braga signed the Ivorian midfielder from Danish side Nordsjaelland in the summer of 2025 for a reported €11.5m.
- Dorgeles made an immediate impact in his first season in Portugal, recording seven goals and four assists in 39 appearances in all competitions.
- His minutes have been more restricted at the start of the 2026-27 campaign, but PSG have acted early to ensure they are first in line should Braga open talks over a sale.
- The €3.3m preference fee was disclosed in Braga’s latest financial accounts, confirming PSG’s privileged status in any future move.
Premier League interest had been building
Dorgeles emerged through the Right to Dream academy system and had already attracted strong attention during his spell at Nordsjaelland. Arsenal and Chelsea were linked with him, while Newcastle United and Brighton were also credited with monitoring his progress.
PSG’s move gives them protection against a bidding battle if the midfielder’s value rises further. It does not, however, guarantee that he will eventually join Luis Enrique’s squad.
Braga connection
The deal comes against the backdrop of Qatar Sports Investments’ shareholding in Braga. QSI, PSG’s owners, hold a 29.6% stake in the Portuguese club and are Braga’s second-largest shareholder.
That ownership position does not compel Braga to send players to PSG, but it has helped create the conditions for the two clubs to complete an unusual preference-right agreement.
For now, Dorgeles remains a Braga player and will continue his development in Portugal. PSG have paid for time and priority; the next decision will be Braga’s if and when an offer arrives.
