Sega Opens Limited Multiplayer Closed Test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour
Sega has opened sign-ups for a limited multiplayer closed network test of Crazy Taxi: World Tour, giving players a chance to try the upcoming next entry in the franchise ahead of its 2027 release. The test runs in the US over three days in September and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5.

New trailer spotlights a playable West Coast setting
A fresh trailer accompanies the test announcement, focusing on a West Coast location. Sega says this will be one of the playable areas in World Tour, while also noting that it has not yet announced additional locales beyond the West Coast.
Announcement timing and franchise context
Crazy Taxi: World Tour was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase in June. Its debut trailer featured “All I Want” by The Offspring, a track strongly associated with the original Crazy Taxi.
The game is positioned as the first mainline installment in the series since Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller released in 2002. Sega has scheduled Crazy Taxi: World Tour for release in 2027.
Earlier controversy over generative AI use
Sega faced criticism after the game’s Steam page stated that Crazy Taxi: World Tour was made in part with generative AI. The Steam blurb says generative AI is used as a support tool to help developers provide better content and to enable creators to focus on creative tasks.
In response, Sega said it used generative AI to develop background assets. Franchise creator Kenji Kanno later defended the approach, saying the team used generative AI to generate ideas and as a reference, while humans were responsible for creating actual in-game assets.
