Tielemans Apologises After Man United’s 4-1 Champions League Loss at Como
Youri Tielemans has apologised to Manchester United supporters after Wednesday’s 4-1 Champions League collapse at Como, admitting the side lacked cohesion, intensity and decision-making in Italy.
Tielemans delivers blunt verdict
The summer arrival described a bleak dressing-room mood after United’s heaviest European setback of the campaign and said there could be no disguising the scale of the performance.
- United were disjointed and failed to operate collectively.
- Their pressing game did not function.
- Players repeatedly made poor choices in possession.
- Como were able to play through United far too easily.
Tielemans said frustration naturally grew during the match, but accepted that the visitors were well below the required level. He added that United must quickly move on, with more fixtures imminent.
Apology to travelling fans
Michael Carrick went to the away end at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia after full-time to say sorry to the United supporters who had remained in the ground.
Tielemans backed that message, saying fans who travelled such a distance deserved far more than they saw in Como. He stressed that repeated apologies will mean little unless the team produces a response on the pitch.
United have now failed to win any of their last seven matches, leaving supporters to endure an increasingly difficult run. Tielemans said the players must take responsibility and fight for the club.
Carrick under pressure before Bournemouth
The defeat has intensified pressure on Carrick following United’s poor opening to the season. His position has also faced further scrutiny after captain Bruno Fernandes publicly raised concerns about the head coach’s methods.
United return to Premier League action on Sunday, when Bournemouth visit Old Trafford. The immediate task is clear:
- End the seven-game winless sequence.
- Produce a more organised collective display.
- Give travelling and home supporters evidence of a response.
