tinyBuild Revokes Hundreds of Steam Keys for ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs
tinyBuild has revoked hundreds of digital product keys for its PC game ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs after confirming that most of the codes were being resold through “suspicious” key marketplaces. The publisher says the issue stems from regional pricing on Steam and warns players to buy directly to avoid losing access.
649 keys revoked after reseller activity
In a post on X, tinyBuild president Alex Nichiporchik said the company invalidated 649 keys for ReStory. He noted that the majority of those keys were sold via third-party sites focused on code resale.
He also told affected players to contact the reseller if they purchased the game from one of those questionable sellers and then lost access to the product.
Regional price arbitrage blamed
Nichiporchik said the core problem is tied to regional pricing on Steam. He claims resellers were buying the game in regions where it was priced substantially lower, then listing the resulting keys on external platforms at a higher price for profit.
To illustrate the impact of key-reseller sites, he cited a 2016 case where tinyBuild said it lost 450,000 dollars due to similar key marketplace activity.
Recommendation: buy directly on Steam
tinyBuild’s public guidance is straightforward: players should purchase games directly on Steam. Nichiporchik framed it as the simplest way to avoid access being revoked after a key is traced back to unauthorized resale.
He also added a blunt rule of thumb: if an offer seems too good to be true, it likely isn’t.
Green Man Gaming users also affected
The revoked-key situation reportedly impacted some customers of Green Man Gaming, an authorized storefront. Nichiporchik said these players will receive new keys automatically, and that they should not need to take any additional steps.
