Uruguay’s Torreira and Araujo Try Cricket at Eden Gardens in Kolkata
Uruguay’s players swapped football boots for cricket gear during their Kolkata tour, with Lucas Torreira and Ronald Araujo taking part in a batting and bowling session at Eden Gardens.
La Celeste’s federation released footage of the pair trying India’s leading sport at the famous stadium, while the squad also used their time in the city to visit the Victoria Memorial and St Paul’s Cathedral.
The Eden Gardens stop carried a football link for Uruguay. They lifted the first Nehru Cup at the venue in 1982, while current head coach Diego Forlan has his own Indian connection after playing for Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League in 2016.
The No. 20-ranked side in the world now turn fully towards Tuesday’s exhibition against India at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on October 6. Uruguay arrive after a 4-1 win over South Korea in Seoul late last month.
India, meanwhile, are seeking an immediate reaction at the same stadium after Brazil handed the Blue Tigers a 4-0 defeat three days before the Uruguay match.
