Tottenham defender Jan Paul van Hecke has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad after failing to overcome a foot injury suffered in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Serbia.

- Van Hecke attempted to take part in training on Wednesday morning but was forced to stop early because of the problem.

- Van Hecke was rested only for Tottenham’s 3-1 Carabao Cup loss against Liverpool.

What happens next
The Netherlands, second in Group 2 on four points after drawing 1-1 with Germany and beating Serbia, host Serbia again on October 4 after the Greece game. Tottenham will assess Van Hecke before their October 10 trip to Manchester United.
Spurs are bottom of the Premier League with two points from five matches. After visiting United, they welcome Coventry City on October 19 before travelling to Chelsea on October 24.
