Verity Minecraft horror mod hits 4.9M downloads in under a month
Minecraft horror has found a new, oddly cheerful figure: Verity. The yellow, smiley-faced orb from a viral video has been inspiring mods across both Bedrock and Java editions, and one Bedrock release in particular is rapidly becoming the headline version of the trend.
The original Verity video first landed in May 2026 and has since passed 20 million views. Since then, modders have been building their own takes on the idea, trying to capture the uneasy atmosphere of the “helpful” companion. For Bedrock Edition players, PnTMC’s “Verity – Bedrock Edition” appears to be the runaway success. Uploaded to CurseForge on Tuesday, June 16, the mod reached more than 4.9 million downloads in just 28 days.
That mod also stands out for its official backing: it is one of three mods supported by the series creator, ThatMob. In-game, Verity is designed to be more than just a creepy decoration. Players can throw Verity, pick it up, and interact with it by sending questions as text inside Minecraft. The mod also includes a song interaction feature, matching the behavior from the original video, and it responds in the same general way. The longer you spend with it, the source notes, the more likely you are to eventually witness a nightmarish outcome.
Other Bedrock versions have also drawn serious attention. Undertalelover’s Bedrock mod has accumulated 2.8 million downloads as of the time of writing and is described as bringing the mysterious entity from the viral horror series into Minecraft Bedrock Edition. It currently sits as the second most successful mod among the Verity-themed Bedrock releases.
On Java Edition, the field is smaller so far, but VarmiteYT’s Verity-based Java mod is reported as the only officially supported option for that version. Created just under two weeks ago, it has already surpassed 800,000 downloads in total, making it one of the fastest-moving Verity entries for Java players.
How these mods will evolve over time isn’t confirmed yet, but even in their current stages the core premise is consistent: Verity is built to answer what players ask—so long as you’re careful about what happens when night falls.
