Viktor Gyokeres Insists He Is Happy at Arsenal Despite Transfer Speculation
Viktor Gyokeres has dismissed any suggestion he sought an Arsenal exit in the latest transfer window, insisting he remains “extremely happy” at the club despite a difficult start to the campaign.
Speaking during Sweden duty, the 28-year-old said staying at Emirates Stadium had never been in doubt. “There was plenty of speculation, of course, but I had a full pre-season and felt good,” he said. “My focus was completely on Arsenal. Staying was a given for me.”
Gyokeres has slipped behind Kai Havertz in Mikel Arteta’s striking plans, with the German now the Premier League champions’ established first-choice centre-forward. The Sweden international has made only two league appearances this season, both from the bench, and is still awaiting his first Arsenal goal of the campaign.
His most recent goal for the club came in April, during the FA Cup loss to Southampton. It followed an uneven first season after his 2025 move from Sporting, a campaign which ended with Gyokeres left among the substitutes for May’s Champions League final.
Gyokeres targets Arsenal comeback
Although he accepts the competition for places, Gyokeres made clear that he wants a larger role. He said every player wants to be on the pitch regularly, while acknowledging Arsenal have a strong squad and have started the season well.
The former Coventry City forward has also spoken with Arteta about his recent performances. Gyokeres said he knows he must raise his level, but described communication with his manager as positive. His aim is simple: take his opportunities and score when selected.
There has been talk of a possible future departure, including rumours over a 2027 move, but Gyokeres is currently focused on forcing his way back into the side rather than planning a transfer.
Sweden duty has offered a timely lift. Goals against Romania and Poland took his international total to 23, and he will now look to add to that record in the upcoming matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Romania.
What happens next is at Arsenal. When Leeds United visit the Emirates Stadium on October 10, Gyokeres will be pushing to translate his Sweden form into club football and put renewed pressure on Havertz for the No. 9 role.
