Jamie Vardy put Burnley ahead on Friday night, converting his second attempt of the match to show there is still sharpness in the 39-year-old striker. It was his first goal on English soil since May 18, 2025, and gave the home side a lead approaching the interval.
But Burnley unravelled through costly individual errors. Kyle Walker lost the ball just outside his own box, allowing Sean Neave to release Lopez, whose finish struck the inside of the left-hand post on its way in.
Wolves took control after the break and found the decisive goal with 18 minutes remaining. Igor’s heavy touch handed Chirewa a clear sight of goal. Gregoire Coudert got a hand to the shot, but could not prevent the ball from looping beyond him and falling beneath the crossbar.
Burnley created little in pursuit of an equaliser and were greeted by boos at full-time. The result leaves them close to the foot of the Championship and means they have gone nearly a full year without winning a home league fixture.
The run began after their last home league success on October 18 and now stands as the longest such winless sequence across England’s top four divisions.
Before kick-off, Vardy was asked whether this would be his final season as a player. “We’ll have to wait until the summer and let my legs tell my head what they think,” he said.
Wolves have their first victory in three games and will now look to carry that momentum forward. Burnley, meanwhile, must quickly improve their defending and home results if they are to pull clear of the relegation fight.
