How to Farm Dragon Nayen Drops in Zelda: BOTW

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players can encounter three non-hostile dragons in the sky—Faren, Nayen, and Elden—but one of them, Nayen, requires a specific prerequisite before you can even find it. After freeing Nayen from a corrupted state, you’ll be able to farm the dragon’s drops—scales, horns, claws, and fangs—by timing your approach and targeting different body parts.

Nayen’s location and how to free it

Unlike the other two dragons, Nayen can’t be approached immediately. To make it available, you must first free it from the Source of Wisdom on Mount Lanayru, where it appears in a corrupted state. Once it’s liberated, Nayen will begin roaming the region.

After you free Nayen, it starts regular movement through Lanayru and Necluda. The easiest interception spot is between the Lanayru Great Plateau and the Pierre Great Plateau. The fastest way to reach the marked area is to travel from the Rahnnak Shrine.

At this location, Nayen begins appearing at 5:00 AM. If you don’t want to wait around, you can light a campfire and rest until morning to reduce downtime.

When Nayen is in range, you’ll want to line up your shot carefully: using Revali’s Power can help you launch yourself upward for better aim. Importantly, what material you get depends on where you hit, so targeting specific areas is key.

There’s also a crucial limitation for farming: Nayen drops only one material each time it appears. That means you’ll need to repeat the encounter multiple times if you’re trying to collect different item types.

What Nayen drops: parts, materials, and values

To get Nayen’s loot for armor upgrades, recipes, and elixirs, you’ll need to strike particular body parts. You can hit any part of Nayen except its mouth, horns, or legs (those parts have their own specific drop rules below).

Any valid body part (not mouth, horns, or legs): sells for 150 Rupees or 60 Monsters.
Horn: sells for 300 Rupees or 150 Monsters.
Paw/leg: sells for 180 Rupees.
Mouth: sells for 250 Rupees or 110 Monsters.

Once you’ve collected the corresponding dragon materials, you can give them to the Great Fairy to strengthen your armor.

Because Nayen appears on a predictable schedule and only yields one item per appearance, effective farming becomes a matter of preparation: free it first, arrive at the right spot, wait until 5:00 AM, and use targeted hits to control which material you receive each time.
