How to Find the Lord of the Mountain Horse in Zelda: Breath of the Wild
In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players searching for rare mounts have a specific target: the “Mysterious” horse known as the Lord of the Mountain. It’s tied to a single spot in Hyrule, appears only under particular nighttime conditions, and—most importantly—comes with a defining gameplay perk: infinite stamina once you manage to tame it.
Where the Lord of the Mountain spawns
The Lord of the Mountain can be found on Mount Satoly, located west of the Plains Tower. The encounter is directly in front of the Moratt Shrine. This is not a mount you can stumble into on a regular route—its presence is tied to the mountain and to the time window when it chooses to show up.
What you need to tame it
Taming this horse requires planning, because the creature is presented as unusually difficult to approach and includes stamina requirements that many players won’t have set aside automatically. The key requirements include:
- Stealth gear: the horse is described as having extreme hearing, and the guide recommends stealth equipment as “almost mandatory.” If you don’t have the right gear, you can use a stealth elixir instead.
- Stamina for the tame attempt: you’ll need at least the equivalent of two full stamina wheels to complete the taming process. The guide suggests cooking food or an elixir that grants stamina if you’re short.
- Timing at night: it spawns randomly during the night. Instead of checking repeatedly at the same time, you can look at the mountain—when it’s present, it shows a blue glow similar to an aurora.
How to approach and what makes it special
Once the Lord of the Mountain appears, the approach matters. The instructions are to move gradually toward the horse while it is crouched, coming up from behind, then mount it to begin taming. When successful, you can ride it wherever you choose.
The standout feature is that this mount is the only horse described as having infinite stamina. For players, that changes how long-distance traversal can feel—no stamina budgeting needed once you’re on it.
The catch: you can’t store it
Even with infinite stamina while riding, the Lord of the Mountain comes with a major limitation: you cannot store it at a stable. The horse only stays available for a limited time after you get off, and then it disappears. It will return to Mount Satoly later, so players who want to use it again will need to track its next appearance.
