GTA 6 Gameplay Preview Sparks FPS Debate on PS5 Pro and Modern Consoles
Rockstar’s long-awaited first extended look at GTA VI has arrived ahead of the game’s November release—and the community reaction is already split across platforms, expectations, and, notably, the target frame rate. The roughly 26-minute gameplay preview sparked fresh debate around how the gangster epic will run on modern consoles, including the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Rockstar’s “Extended Look” and what players saw
- In late August, Rockstar ended the wait for substantive gameplay by releasing an “Extended Look” that runs for about 26 minutes.
- The preview initially launched on Netflix, then became available a few hours later for free on YouTube.
- The footage included a look at Leonida’s open world, gangster-focused missions, and a variety of side activities.
- The extended preview also highlighted the game’s two protagonists, Jason and Lucia.
Console frame rate debate: “30 FPS on all current consoles”
Alongside the gameplay reveal, a performance claim moved to the center of the discussion: GTA VI is planned to run at 30 FPS across all currently available consoles, including the PlayStation 5 Pro.
- 48.5% of respondents said 30 FPS is unacceptable for a game of this scale and that they would wait.
- 30.7% said it isn’t ideal, but that 30 FPS is acceptable on console for this type of game.
- 12.4% said 30 FPS would usually be too low, but they would make an exception for GTA VI.
- 8.4% said they do not understand the backlash, stating 30 FPS is fine.
