Even though I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and appreciate urban centers, I developed a deep respect for the natural world. This inspiration can be attributed mostly to spending time on my grandparent’s dairy farm in western Wisconsin. My grandfather would take me on hikes in the woods, identifying the various trees and plants for me, while always impressing upon me the importance of conservation and balance with nature. I also enjoyed devouring my grandmother’s jam and pickles, playing in the barn, herding cows, digging potatoes, and picking raspberries and sugar snap peas. In my late teens I began searching for alternatives to antibiotics for my chronic sinus infections. I was intuitive enough to choose the correct homeopathic remedy and my symptoms improved over night! My fascination with alternative medicine was further enhanced by working in a small health food store and listening to people of all ages from all over the world share their stories about herbs and natural remedies.

I attended college in Maine where I developed an appreciation for growing and producing real food. My side jobs as a landscaper and as a maple syrup vendor/producer provided me greater insights into the natural world. I dabbled in creating herbal products, and I can still remember how overjoyed I felt when my first tincture, Crampbark, proved to be quite effective! Shortly after graduating, I began inspecting farms for MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association). I have spent many summers traveling across Maine, visiting farms and observing many different growing operations. In 2001, I apprenticed with Gail Faith Edwards. Gail encouraged me to come and work for her in the following years, and I spent many hours in her little herb house preparing tea blends as well as straining and bottling tinctures, elixirs and oils.

I am honored to be mentioned in the foreword of one of her books. Herbs and homeopathy have seen me through three home births and continue to help me raise my 3 boys. As a massage therapist, I enjoy pampering clients with my herbal oils, creams, and salves as well as aromatherapeutic blends. I specialize in using hot and cold stone therapies in combination with herbal applications. As a yoga teacher, I appreciate weaving herbal knowledge and TCM perspectives with yogic theory. I enjoy teaching a wide variety of classes, but I hope to inspire more people to embrace introspective forms like Yin and Restorative. Lastly, I present workshops on a variety of herbal subjects. I am a graduate of Rosemary Gladstar’s Science and Art of Herbalism course. I am currently an Advanced Student at East West and I look forward to the challenge of the coming year. I am also pursuing my 500-Hour Yoga Teacher certification through the Asheville Yoga Center. My family and I have recently moved a little further south in Maine and are in the process of transitioning our acreage to meet organic standards. We will be growing herbs and vegetables for home use as well as for my small herbal business, Wild Craft Herbals. I am deeply committed to weaving together various healing arts to enhance my own health as well as that of others. www.wildcraftyogaandhealingarts.com
