Kingsley Coman Targets Al Ain Return After Hamstring Tear

Al-Nassr winger Kingsley Coman has been ruled out of Saturday’s Saudi Pro League meeting with Al-Khaleej but could return in time for Tuesday’s AFC Champions League Elite opener against Al Ain.

The France international is recovering from the hamstring injury he suffered against Al-Ittihad. An MRI showed only a minor tear, giving Al-Nassr hope that Coman can complete his rehabilitation quickly and be available for the continental fixture on September 15.

Coman has yet to score or provide an assist in six appearances this season, but his ability to beat defenders and create from wide positions remains important to Al-Nassr’s attacking balance. His potential return would give Ronaldo another direct supply line against the UAE side.

Ronaldo is chasing a first Asian club title after winning the European equivalent five times. The 2026-27 tournament could be his last opportunity to add the AFC Champions League Elite trophy before retirement.

Al Ain have already ended one Ronaldo-led Al-Nassr run. The Saudi club were knocked out by the eventual champions on penalties in the 2023-24 quarter-finals, despite Ronaldo recording six goals and two assists across nine games.

His individual record improved in the following campaign, when he struck eight times in eight matches. Al-Nassr still fell short, however, losing 3-2 to Kawasaki Frontale in the semi-finals.

Next comes Al-Khaleej on Saturday, with Postecoglou expected to protect his core group. Then attention turns immediately to Al Ain, where Ronaldo and, potentially, a recovered Coman will begin another push for the Asian crown.
