Everton are through to the next round of the Carabao Cup after Alcaraz struck in the 80th minute to settle a tight third-round tie against Wolves at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The contest appeared to be heading towards a goalless finish until Alcaraz found the breakthrough with 10 minutes remaining. His finish gave David Moyes’ team the 1-0 result they needed to keep their cup run alive.

Defence holds firm under Wolves pressure
Wolves struggled to build sustained attacks against Everton’s organised back line. Pickford was required only twice, with the home defence preventing the visitors from creating enough clear opportunities to threaten the result.
That resilience proved decisive once Alcaraz had delivered the only goal. Everton’s lack of finishing earlier in the match did not cost them, as the late strike was enough to secure progression.
What happens next
Everton now turn back to Premier League action, with Ipswich Town next on the fixture list. Moyes will want his side to carry the confidence of a cup victory into that top-flight assignment.
Wolves must quickly recover from their exit. Their next match is a Championship home game against West Brom.
