Alisson Becker fined £8,000 by FA over Nottingham Forest draw outburst

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 after accepting a Football Association misconduct charge arising from his reaction to the 2-2 Premier League draw with Nottingham Forest on 29 August.

The Brazil international was sanctioned for his conduct near the tunnel after the final whistle at Anfield. Alisson’s frustration boiled over as he left the field, with the goalkeeper seen kicking the fourth official’s board following the match.

The incident came after Alisson had been penalised in the second half for a challenge on former Liverpool defender Neco Williams. The keeper had rushed from goal to close down the Forest player and was judged to have brought him down inside the area.

Alisson accepted the FA charge and received the standard £8,000 punishment. The governing body ruled that his behaviour around the tunnel area had been improper, regardless of the later assessment of the penalty decision.

That review gave Liverpool’s goalkeeper some backing on the original call. The Premier League’s Key Match Incidents Panel voted 3-2 that referee Barrott should not have awarded the spot-kick, concluding that contact was unavoidable as Alisson attempted to make a save and did not meet the threshold for a foul.

However, the panel was unanimous, by a 5-0 vote, that VAR was right not to intervene. Its view was that the decision did not amount to a sufficiently clear and obvious error for the video official to overturn it.

Alisson will therefore face no sporting suspension from the incident, but the fine stands as Liverpool move on from a controversial Anfield draw.
