Barcelona will be without Raphinha for Saturday’s La Liga meeting with Getafe and the trip to Galatasaray in Istanbul, with Hansi Flick refusing to risk the Brazilian despite scans showing no serious injury.

Flick takes cautious line on Raphinha

Raphinha has been central to Barcelona’s push at the top of the league, but Flick has opted for protection after the winger suffered three injuries last season. Barcelona return to La Liga action at Spotify Camp Nou before travelling to Turkey, and the coach has ruled him out of both immediate games.

  • Raphinha will not face Getafe at Spotify Camp Nou.
  • He will also miss the Galatasaray fixture in Istanbul.
  • Imaging did not reveal a major problem, but Barcelona will manage his recovery carefully.
  • The club are entering a run of five matches in two weeks.

Flick said Raphinha always gives everything for his country and club, but questioned the strain created by long-distance international friendlies. He pointed to the Australia trip of around 30,000 kilometres and said players face huge pressure amid an already packed calendar.

The Barcelona boss added that the international schedule cannot be altered by his staff, including because of Nations League commitments, so his priority is to control workloads and prevent a longer absence.

Jesus set to lead the attack

Raphinha’s absence gives Jesus the chance to make his mark, with Flick confirming that the former Arsenal forward is expected to start.

Flick believes the striker has made major progress in training and settled quickly into the group. The coach highlighted Jesus’ work in the penalty area, his improving physical condition and his recent performances on the training pitch.

Joan Garcia to start as De Jong nears return

Joan Garcia will keep his place in goal against Getafe. Flick confirmed that Dominik Livakovic and Wojciech Szczesny remain available alternatives, but said Garcia is ready to start.

Frenkie de Jong, meanwhile, will not be involved against either Getafe or Galatasaray as he continues his recovery from an ankle problem. There is, however, growing optimism over his return.

  • De Jong’s recovery has progressed well and he is no longer in pain.
  • Barcelona will not rush the Dutch midfielder back.
  • Flick said he could be available for the match against Real Betis.
