Bethesda Fallout 5 Pre-Production Plus Fallout 3 & New Vegas Remasters

Bethesda has re-confirmed that Fallout 5 is still in development, and it says the game has moved into pre-production. Alongside that long-range goal, the studio has officially confirmed remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, plus a new Fallout project from Obsidian as it expands the franchise across multiple platforms and timelines.

Fallout 5 enters pre-production; remasters confirmed

In a fresh statement, Bethesda said Fallout 5 remains its “long-range destination,” with multiple Fallout projects already in active development. The studio also clarified that Fallout 5 is now in pre-production, while it continues to prioritize other major work—specifically The Elder Scrolls 6.

Bethesda did not provide release dates for Fallout 5 or the remasters. Instead, it pointed to ongoing internal work on revisiting earlier games, confirming that remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in progress.

Obsidian working on a new Fallout game

Bethesda also confirmed reports that Obsidian Entertainment is making a new Fallout title. The studio framed it as another collaboration with its longtime partner, stating that Obsidian is working with Bethesda on a new Fallout project and that more details will follow later.

Updates across the Fallout lineup

Bethesda used the same statement to share additional milestones and upcoming plans for other entries in the series:

Fallout 4 has sold 35 million copies.
Fallout Shelter has reached 250 million players.
Fallout Shelter is expanding with a new reality TV show.
Fallout 76 is getting a “major” expansion in 2027 titled Raven Rock, described as a prequel story to Fallout 3.

Fallout 30th anniversary plans

Bethesda said it will not host a traditional Fallout Day broadcast this year. However, it confirmed plans for something special tied to the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2027, when Fallout Day will be celebrated live in Washington, D.C.

Elder Scrolls 6 remains the current focus

While Fallout 5 progresses into pre-production and other projects keep moving, Bethesda emphasized that its current focus is The Elder Scrolls 6. The studio said the sequel is “on the way,” describing the team’s current state as being “where we planned to be,” with ongoing development and daily work on the game.
