Black Desert Online Heidel Ball: New Class and Faster Progression Plans
Pearl Abyss used Heidel Ball to lay out a major batch of updates for Black Desert Online, including a new playable class, a shift in how classes will be introduced going forward, and multiple systems aimed at smoothing long-term progression. The show also marked the game’s 10th year in North America, with the first big announcements led by live service director Jeseok Jang.
Heidel Ball 2026: venue, community energy, and event activities
Heidel Ball 2026 took place at AV Irvine in Irvine, with the event running in a building located within a technology business park rather than a historic venue. The day’s weather outside was reported around 95 degrees Fahrenheit, while the venue was kept near 68 degrees.
- Pearl Abyss reserved the entire hotel for Heidel Ball attendees.
- A complimentary shuttle operated between the hotel and the venue due to the event’s relatively small size.
- Doors opened at 11:30 local time.
Inside, the event featured a purplish lighting setup, music, and several interactive activities. Attendees received a quest log listing what to try, including a fishing challenge, a shooting gallery-style game, a strength test using a hammer setup, and food service.
BDO-themed minigames and rewards
The event centered on four main BDO-themed carnival games. When players won a game, they received a virtual raffle ticket attached to their account. Participants could also earn physical collectible card packs by submitting the quest log at a prize counter.
- Ball toss: players threw balls into a fishbowl; participation was recorded via a stamp on the “adventure log.”
- Shooting gallery: nerf guns with four bullets to hit the furthest target; the activity was themed around the Deadeye class.
- No Pen, No Gain: a cooperative enhancement-style game where four players worked together to upgrade an item from base to PEN, requiring five successful wins; only one player needed to succeed for everyone to win.
- Strength test (hammer/bell): a digital version of the “test of strength” where players needed to score 777 between two strikes to win; higher performance still resulted in victory for the scoring threshold.
Major announcements: Agent class and a new class release cadence
The main reveals opened with a message celebrating Black Desert Online’s 10th year in North America, delivered by live service director Jeseok Jang. As he spoke, the crowd responded with chants wishing “ten more years,” and he answered with “20 more years,” to applause.
New class 32: the Agent
Pearl Abyss revealed the game’s 32nd class, the Agent, alongside details from a trailer. The class is positioned as the younger brother of the Deadeye, and the presentation emphasized that players who already main Deadeye will recognize the general feel while noting key differences.
- The Agent will have both an awakening and a succession version.
- The class is designed around “fast controlled movements.”
- Its signature movement ability centers on teleporting around to land a single powerful attack.
The event also explained a strategic change in how Pearl Abyss will add classes: starting with succession first, the studio plans to introduce one new character per year in succession form, then add the awakening later within the same year—described as similar to how classes used to be released.
Endgame, progression changes, and quality-of-life improvements
Heidel Ball also included a slate of endgame and system updates, including content intended to bring an end to the “ultimate story arc.” The event coverage indicated additional details would follow beyond the live presentation.
Life skill gear unification and account-wide access
- Life skill gear is being unified so there is no longer a separate life-skilling character setup.
- The gear will become account bound, allowing all characters to use it.
- Pearl Abyss described these changes as laying groundwork for a larger initiative to separate combat and life skill content.
Level cap and progression overhaul
Two additional standalone improvements were highlighted during the reveal:
- A permanent maximum level of 75.
- A progression-system cleanup described as overdue and becoming “unruly.”
The revised progression system is called Hyperboost. It is designed to help players reach a gear score target of 730, allowing them to enter new content sooner rather than spending additional time on older steps of progression.
What players should watch next
Between the Agent’s awakening/succession structure, the new yearly class release approach, and the major changes to life skill gear and progression, Heidel Ball framed the update cycle as both a content expansion and a systems reset. The event also teased more endgame details beyond the live coverage, while confirming the studio’s intent to shift how players approach both progression and long-term content planning.
