Brentford Thrash Chelsea 3-0 to Set Record Premier League Start

Brentford swept Chelsea aside 3-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium, with three second-half goals sealing west London derby supremacy and a record-breaking start to the Premier League season.

Brentford set a new five-game mark

Keith Andrews’ side have taken nine points from their first five league matches, bettering the club’s previous best opening return in the top flight. Brentford had collected eight points at the same stage of the 2021-22 campaign.

The result also continued the Bees’ strong home form. They are now unbeaten in eight Premier League games at the Gtech Community Stadium, a sequence that began in February.

Corner routine breaks Chelsea resistance

The opening half was closely fought, but Brentford emerged after the interval with greater aggression following a direct message from Andrews to raise the tempo and retain belief.

Jaidon Anthony made the breakthrough in the 61st minute, scoring his first goal for the Bees. Mikkel Damsgaard delivered a corner towards the far post, where Schuster headed the ball back into the danger area for Anthony to finish with a header.

Anthony said: “At half-time, he just wanted us to increase the intensity and keep believing. Fab [Carvalho] told me a couple of days ago that I was going to score, so I’m really happy with that one. It was an unbelievable feeling.”

Thiago and Carvalho complete derby rout

Brentford struck again 10 minutes from time as Kevin Schade got in behind Chelsea’s high line. Martinez stopped Schade’s first attempt, but Igor Thiago was quickest to the rebound and fired in the second.

Thiago then celebrated emphatically with Andrews by the touchline as Brentford took control of the contest.

Fabio Carvalho, introduced from the bench, added the third in stoppage time. Schade’s low ball was deflected into his path and Carvalho arrived at the back post to finish.

What happens next

Andrews had made two alterations to his starting side, bringing in Michael Kayode and Damsgaard, and praised the response from a team he felt showed toughness as well as quality.

“I feel like I’ve played – I feel like I’ve kicked every ball,” Andrews said. “We had to show different attributes: grit, resilience, passion and enthusiasm. I just loved us tonight. I loved everything about it.”

Brentford will now aim to turn their strongest-ever five-match Premier League opening into sustained momentum under Andrews.
