Bungie Temporarily Removes Marathon “Arcana Crusade” Weapon Skins Over Art Issues

Bungie has temporarily removed four weapon skins from Marathon after discovering “unfinished art” issues that could make the items appear “mostly invisible.” The affected cosmetics are expected to return once a fix goes live with next week’s mid-season update.

Four skins pulled due to “unfinished art”

The change targets the Arcana Crusade pack, a set of black-and-white themed weapon designs that Bungie says were not displaying correctly. The most visible problem involves the Bully SMG, which has been showing up as a bright, color-block effect that cycles through the spectrum—prompting players to nickname it “RGBully.”

Bungie confirmed the skins will be unavailable for use until the issue is resolved, with the fix scheduled to arrive as part of the July 21 mid-season update. The studio also reassured players that purchases are not being undone: “ownership is preserved,” meaning you’ll be able to equip the skins again after the patch is deployed.

What happens to purchased cosmetics

Bungie did not say the cosmetics will be refunded or re-rolled. Instead, it stated that ownership remains intact, and the items will be usable again once the update lands. It also added a light joke about the Bully SMG’s visual glitch staying memorable: “The RGBully will always remember this time with you fondly.”

Mid-season update set for Tuesday July 21

The larger mid-season update is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21. Bungie said it will publish a blog later this week, noting that it has been “a little quiet” recently.

In the meantime, the studio says it’s preparing the full patch notes for launch day, while the blog will preview details instead—especially new content coming to the game’s endgame loop.

Vault Breaker mode and other update changes

In its blog, Bungie plans to provide more information about Vault Breaker mode. The mode is described as a repeatable way to enter Marathon’s endgame Cryo Archive, with restrictions that prevent players from carrying the loot into the main economy.

Bungie also flagged additional work beyond the new mode, including balance changes, “a few much-needed weapon adjustments,” and details on a buff to Cradle progression.

Community feedback and story-building goals

Bungie said it’s “listening” to the community and asked players for their current thoughts on the state of Marathon. It also addressed feedback requesting more storytelling and worldbuilding, saying the team is continuing to work on a story that can be “injected into as much of Marathon as possible.”

Finally, Bungie acknowledged a difficult period for the studio, including layoffs, and pointed to the need to “get the ball rolling again,” while continuing its focus on supporting Marathon alongside its ongoing work in Destiny 2 after the latter’s final update.
