RuneScape Road to Restoration Adds New Player Housing With Homesteads

Old-school Gielinor homebuilders are getting a major new reason to return as RuneScape’s “Road to Restoration” celebrations for the game’s 25th anniversary roll into a fresh player housing update. Jagex says the next gameplay system to be rebuilt with modern upgrades is player-owned housing, following Spring’s player avatar update that improved visual fidelity and added new hairstyles.

The new player housing experience is framed around “freedom,” with construction and customization reworked to give players more control over how their houses look and function. “From The Ground Up” introduces a range of house styles plus more than 650 unique decor and furniture pieces, including items like a Weather Vane for themed outdoor changes and a Music Box for setting the tone inside your home.

Construction is now tied to a higher requirement, with the skill raised to level 120. Just as importantly, Jagex has replaced the traditional build-and-destroy training loop with a new furniture crafting system, designed to change how players unlock progress while they craft and furnish their homes.

Social play is also getting a direct housing boost. Players can create Homesteads with up to five people, building together as a shared community. Jagex says residents can access each other’s plots freely, and they’ll unlock shared benefits for living together. Public Homesteads are available as well, aimed at giving players an easy place to explore layouts and ideas if they want inspiration or get stuck planning their own.

Visits aren’t limited either, meaning players can host events without worrying about visitor caps. For display-focused builders, the update adds several showcase options including display cases, a Prestigious Cape Stand, and a Skillscape Stand that supports showing off everything from Archaeological findings to capes and personal progression.

Storage gets expanded too, with new trunks, chests, and an aquarium added for stashing items. For players who treat their house like a base of operations between quests, the update also includes an Armor Repair stand, interaction with a new Gilded Altar, and multiple cauldrons that provide different benefits depending on what you need before heading out.
