Mainoo and Tielemans controlled the central areas as Carrick’s team built an unassailable 3-0 lead before the break. That early command enabled the manager to protect players ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
Tielemans was withdrawn at half-time, with Mount introduced after a brief absence. Andrey Santos later took Mainoo’s place during the second half, and Carrick felt each of his midfield options maintained the standard.
Carrick said Mount’s return was particularly welcome, while Santos adapted quickly after coming on. He added that Mainoo and Tielemans have accumulated more minutes together, and their improving connection is increasingly clear.
The manager described Mainoo as consistently reliable and said Tielemans had settled in well. Carrick believes the squad now has strong alternatives in the middle, with an understanding between the group that can be used when rotation is required.
Sesko’s finish underlined the attacking strength available to Carrick. The Slovenia forward was making his first start of the campaign and has now scored in successive appearances after missing pre-season with the shin problem he suffered late last season.
Carrick said Sesko brings a distinct option up front, highlighting his build, ability to operate against the defensive line and pace in behind. The manager was pleased to see the striker regain fitness, add goals and collect useful match minutes.
Sesko’s workload will continue to be handled carefully as he works towards full sharpness. With Mount back, Santos settling into the group and Mainoo and Tielemans developing as a partnership, Carrick has more scope to rotate both midfield and attack in the weeks ahead.
