Chelsea Hand Cole Palmer Improved Deal to Keep Him Until 2034
Cole Palmer has signed a new Chelsea contract running until 2034, adding another year to his previous agreement and securing improved terms at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old England international has become a central figure for Chelsea since his £42.5 million switch from Manchester City in 2023. Across 138 appearances, the attacking midfielder has produced 91 goals and assists, helping the club win the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Conference League as well as collecting individual awards.
- Palmer’s deal now matches the longest contracts in the Premier League, alongside Erling Haaland, Chelsea forward Joao Pedro and Geovany Quenda.
- He said Chelsea matters greatly to him and believes the club is moving in the right direction.
- Palmer cited encouraging talks with the owners, sporting directors and manager as decisive in agreeing the extension.
- He also pointed to a squad united by the aim of regularly winning major trophies, saying he wants to play a leading part.
Fitness setback and England omission
The extension follows a difficult spell for Palmer, who carried a groin problem through the previous season. The issue ruled him out of England’s World Cup squad during the summer, while Thomas Tuchel said the player had missed too many chances at international level.
Palmer also skipped the latest international break to continue his recovery. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has now confirmed the forward has trained during the past week and is improving, though the club did not want to push him back too soon.
“He is committed, but he has to be completely fit to play,” Alonso said. “Once he is, he will get his minutes. We need him, as do the national team.”
What happens next
Palmer has made a sharp start under Alonso despite the fitness concerns, recording four goals and two assists in seven matches. He has quickly linked up with close friend Morgan Rogers, Chelsea’s £117 million summer arrival from Aston Villa.
Chelsea visit Bournemouth on Saturday, with Palmer in contention to return. Alonso’s team are 10th in the Premier League after five games and have conceded 12 goals in an unconvincing defensive opening to the campaign.
